The central event was organized at Samarkand State University. The event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kongratbay Sharipov, Deputy Minister Sarvarkhon Buzrukhonov, Rector of Samarkand State University Rustam Kholmurodov, representatives of the regional administration, as well as heads of higher educational institutions, professors and teachers, and the public through studios in various regions of the republic.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Kongratbay Sharipov noted that large-scale reforms are being carried out in our country to ensure the comfortable life and education of students and youth thanks to the special attention of the head of our state. He also congratulated the participants on the double holiday on the eve of the new academic year.
For information, if in 2017 there were 228 student dormitories with only 59,500 places in state higher educational institutions, today this figure has increased significantly. As of July 1, 2025, the number of student dormitories reached 368, and the opportunity to accommodate more than 146 thousand students was created. As a result, the level of coverage of the need for student housing increased from 28 to 54 percent.
These efforts are directly related to the tasks of building an additional 150,000 student dormitories by 2030 in accordance with the "Uzbekistan - 2030" Strategy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 11, 2023.
Currently, projects for the construction of 72 student dormitories with a capacity of 40,700 places are being implemented throughout the republic. Construction work is also underway in 53 student dormitories with 29,900 places.
On the eve of the new academic year, in connection with the 34th anniversary of the independence of our country, 18 student dormitories with a total capacity of 9,980 places were commissioned in higher educational institutions, as well as educational buildings with a capacity of 1,000 places at Samarkand State University and 900 places at Namangan State University.
